The smart, fair and sensible solution is acceptable compo plus retained PELs, albeit with an agreed moratorium of perhaps 3 yrs on one and 10 yrs on the rest.
Why 3 yrs? Well, that's long enough to put together an entity to build a solar farm, a wind farm and a small peaking gas powergen plant for the northern rivers to become a world leader in regional low carbon footprint energy self sufficiency. I also figure 3 yrs is long enough even with inept PR to mount a case that conventional gas extraction from a zone 2-2.5km underground can have no impact whatsoever on surficial aquifers in to top 0.05-0.1km.
Why 10 yrs? That's long enough for the anti frack myth to be debunked by there having been 2 environmentally uneventful decades of commercially successful Gladstone LNG in Qld.
