    Also,

P.S. Cowcockie - the so-called ice age predictions in the 70's are not borne out by the facts - climate scientists at the time were not predicting an imminent ice age and various Time magazine covers that state the same are recent forgeries stemming from an extensive disinformation campaign from the usual vested interests.

From what I understand you are correct about this.

The planet DID cool between the 1950s and 1970s and this trend was noted by climate scientists at the time.

It was a few rogue media outlets that ran with the story about a new Ice Age and it got into the popular culture of the time.

A good analogy for today might be the 2012 Mayan "apocalypse" - it was commonly held that the Mayans predicted the end of the world in 2012. Nobody who was an expert in Mayan culture believed the Mayans actually thought this, but it got widely reported in the media because it was a good story, and nearly everybody knew of it.

Thirty years from now, people will look back on the Mayan apocalypse and no doubt think that it was a much more commonly held belief than it actually was at the time.

I think the same thing will happen with CSG, incidentally. 20 years from now, people will look back and talk about the Great CSG Scare of the 2010s, and how foolish people were to believe it.
