    L J Silver, I don't think we look silly at all. These were two different sets of circumstances. No one knew at first who Monis was and the possibility remained that he could have been talked down without a shot being fired. The idea of taking hostages might have seemed like a good idea at the time but if he had never shot someone while looking them straight in the eye then it was always a possibility that he may have reassessed his decision to stage a siege once in the midst of it.......but once a shot was fired our boys were all over it and Monis was dead 30 seconds later. Unfortunately so were 2 hostages......

    In the case of the Paris shooters we were already well past the stage of the first shots being fired. The French Police already had full knowledge of what they were dealing with. Their actions were an appropriate response for the circumstances and so were ours. IMO.
