It is VERY clear where their minds were going and Jesus knew full well where their minds were fixed, hence he made the clear point example and look you guys, if you don't believe, then touch me etc and feel.
To create another story is inventive and asking for trouble.
And yes, I have no probs with suggestions, however I will tell you at times, what I think of them from a Biblical view point, when that is the topic in discussion.
Jesus is the true church and the one we are to follow and believe.
As for what they believed back then, we have clear examples of how even some of those close to Jesus, had the sh...y end of the stick, so your example or suggestion of considering others views who were less close to Jesus, is not a path I will head down.
