I have been making enquiries of some of the so-called "taxpayers" in my neighbourhood and I was shocked to find many reduce their tax obligations by claiming a swathe of "deductions", many of which are of doubtful legitimacy. This seems cumbersome, and the resulting "refunds" are an unnecessary strain on our struggling budget and should be stopped as soon as possible, making the whole cash harvesting simpler and more efficient with a consequent peoplepower reduction in the ATO. Savings in needless to and fro postage would also be significant.
