Heller knows how to go about it ... go to the actual historical data ... newspapers, press releases and scientific publications for the day.
Then make the comparisons
So records in the USA in the 30’s....
The fact that State Record is not broken supports this assertion .
Unfortunately the question of More Heat Records in modern times is a bit of a furphy. when you make redundant old sites and add 100 new sites and especially in a warm phase you are going to new high temp records. So you get headlines such as “100 new high temp records set this week” with sites that have operated only since the 1990’s.
but the State Record has not been broken in many cases in modern times.
From Wikipedia ... notice the High Temp column and the amount of 1930’s
The following table lists the highest and lowest temperatures recorded in the 50 U.S. states , the District of Columbia , and the 5 inhabited U.S. territories during the past two centuries, in both Fahrenheit and Celsius .[1] If two dates have the same temperature record (e.g. record low of 40°F in 1911 in Aibonito and 1966 in San Sebastian in Puerto Rico ), only the most recent date is shown.
