Woodside Petroleum Ltd has announced its Browse joint venture partners will use floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) technology to commercialise the three Browse gas fields.
In a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange, Woodside said it will use its offshore development expertise with Shell's FLNG technology for optimal development of the Browse resources.
Work on necessary studies will commence immediately with engineering work planned to start next year, the group said.
Woodside previously recommended a floating offshore project to its joint venture partners.
Its plans are a blow for Western Australian premier Colin Barnett, who hoped an onshore project would create more jobs.
