A campaign of anonymous letters has plagued Western Australian (WA) iron ore hopeful Golden West Resources. The author, believed to be a disenchanted investor, had alleged for some time that the company was secretly preparing to merge with uranium and gold prospecting firm Fairstar Resources, which is active in the same region of WA. After denying any such talks were taking place, Golden West has now conceded a proposal was put to it via stockbroking house Bell Potter, but rejected. Meanwhile, the Golden West share price is continuing to rise, with the stock trading at about $A2.27 in early April 2007 after floating at a mere $A0.30 in October 2005. The group wants to reach annual output of iron ore of 10 million tonnes by about 2010.
