    Why do we need a multi lane concrete highway into each house?
    I understand that if there is fibre to the node the twisted copper pair will deliver 25mbs which is 10 times what most people get and would be happy to be able to download a movie in 7-8 minutes.
    According to the census in 2006 there were 7,144,096 households in Australia, to connect these to fiber in ten years you would need to connect around 2000 households/day, I believe this would be an impossible task.
    Surely we can build a perfectly good system with a fiber backbone and wireless for a fraction of the 43bn cost which would leave money to be spent on other essential and urgently needed infrastructure.
