ATI is a proven treatment - they have published results in the American Journal of Sports Medicine. It was approved by the TGA years ago. It has been available in Australia for years. The J&J study is a separate study commissioned by them to no doubt see the efficacy for their own purposes in rotator-cuff repairs - one of the most common and lucrative areas of tendon repair.
Like most innovative treatments in medicine, the industry has been slow to take it up. GP's are ignorant of it. It cannibalizes Orthopaedic Surgeons own business and Physio's have little authority in prescribing treatment. The Australian medical system runs through specialists. The very specialists who are able to recommend lose out on their own procedures making nothing from ATI - it just involves a biopsy and injection under ultra-sound invariably done by a radiologist.
