Multiple births from IVF result from multiple fertile eggs, that are implanted during IVF, adhering to the uterus and thriving. The reason for the multiple egg implants is that not all implanted eggs actually adhere and thrive. The idea behind multiple implanted eggs is that most mother wd rather take the chance of more than one egg thriving than to have just one implanted (at the same expense as 2 or 3) and have it die...and then have to go through all the prep and expense again.
