Nasty surprise for the Melbourne IT industry! LDP MP fought very hard this week to try and stop the engineers registration bill. This bill will require engineers to obtain licenses to practice and be subject to draconian search and seizure provisions and impose huge costs on the industry.However, during the committee stage of the bill on Tuesday night when I started asking the minister questions, I was alarmed at the responses I received. Apparently, the government intends to expand the registration to software engineers! Also, if you call yourself a "Professional Software Engineer", you might want to consider the impacts of this bill.
