Australia-listed European Gas has flowed gas from the Folschviller-2 coalbed methane (CBM) well in the Lorraine region of north-east France.
European Gas said the successful flow test was carried out the well’s upper lateral drain which has a length in coal of about 200 metres, adding hydraulic fracturing was not used.
An independent evaluation of the test results by Beicip-Franlab and subsequent study of a conceptual field development scheme supported the commerciality of the development, according to European Gas.
The European-focused independent claims Folschviller-2 is the first multi-lateral horizontal well in continental Europe.
