Now to those other elephants:
. In a country born into belief in 'Liberty, Equality, Fraternity' all of those are being eroded under French President Macron and under further threat from those to his right.
. Mounting population pressure related issues - eighty million people live in an area the size of NSW and expectations have been created that European countries including France are the best places to live on Earth [a magnet to people trying to escape the Middle East, parts of Africa and SE Asia].
. The French People live in a fishbowl - perennially flooded with tourists from across the World.
. The rise in France of white supremacist far right wing 'pressure groups', exacerbating racial intolerance and tensions.

Throw in Macron's war of obstinance against the lifestyle of the French People including increasing the age when people can retire and with those other elephants on the rampage we're seeing the French pressure cooker at bursting point!

I'm confident my knowledge of Europe is considerably less deficient than many others in this forum by both counts.
The main point being made is that of the new age international immigration policies and lack of coherence thereof that is the crux of the problem.
The French Revolution and prior history is immaterial to this contemporary cock up excepted only by that of its brief moment in the incompatibility of the developmental history of the Western and Eastern cultures and the foolhardy ill- thought out attempt at "integration"
