I'm confident my knowledge of Europe is considerably less deficient than many others in this forum by both counts.
The main point being made is that of the new age international immigration policies and lack of coherence thereof that is the crux of the problem.

@Johilo returned; what passes for 'French' in the charts below is cumulative results of millennia of interactions between France and its 'near neighbours' - unlike countries like Japan, France is NOT monocultural and immigration today is not that much different from what's been the situation throughout History. What's new includes French President Macron's right wing politics and the number of people and tourists in France.
