Duck, I have a close family friend playing for Freo. He played the majority of last year at Peel so I saw most games. I could not believe the lack of basic skills particularly kicking when not under pressure. I have watched a number of these players being elevated to the Dockers and I see the same thing. These bottom 5 or 6 players are really hurting Freo.
The big failing of the club is in recruitment - they have failed to identify and recruit a key forward - this is really hurting them. The backs look great, midfield strong and the forwards, apart from Walters, are their achilles heel. Mayne has been ordinary, Ballantyne had a poor year, Pav needs to go. They need to play Taberner on a regular basis, let him gain some confidence and they need to recruit a tall key forward who is capable of kicking 50 goals. I think Ross is a very good coach but in the end it comes down to the quality of the list particularly when the finals start.
