Be very wary of the unscrupulous administrative operators out there pushing all sorts of schemes and telling you it is kosher to invest in all sorts of exotic investments - instalment warrants, CFDs, related party investments etc etc (they generally subsidise low fees by slugging you with a trail on this crap. It would pay to obtain some professional advice if you are unsure - simply going ahead because the administrator (and that is all they tend to be) has no issue with it is definitely not the answer. You need to pay for some credible advice - not rely on the administrative sweatshops outsourcing for $1 a day to the subcontinent. And don't bother ringing the ATO call centre for an answer - they a next to useless.

Simple rule - if it sounds to good to be true it probably is. And the ATO won't give a rat's if your defence is that an "expert" told you it was ok - they now use a baseball bat and rightly so.
