Here is a different take on world order …
As an active participant of globalisation, the US knowingly traded US jobs for outsourced cheap manufacture to gain increased profits for large US corporates.
In doing so, the US was involved in lifting 100’s of millions out of abject poverty in the third world, notably Asia and the Sub-continent … a wonderful circumstance for global humanity.
Whilst not initially clear, rising wealth and improving living conditions in the third world has come at some cost to lower income groups in the West. The rise in the West of parties from the right and their support base represents pushback. Trump frames it as making America wealthy again, at the expense of those same third world countries that have been rising from poverty.
I suspect that Trump’s US global pivot is simply the tendrils of long running future battle for finite global resource distribution. The whole planet simply cannot consume at the profligate levels enjoyed in America post WW2.
There are huge moral and ethical issues at stake imo as to whether our global future involves some continued form of egalitarian resource and wealth distribution (likely requiring tightening of living standards in post industrial western countries) or some form of concentrated wealth to the detriment of billions of people around the world.
Imo, Trump is an unsophisticated unwitting force working to make wealthy Americans more wealthy at the expense of the majority of less well off Americans and the entire third world … what could go wrong.
For the record, I favour the more egalitarian global future.
