Speaking of that type of thing I have just returned from another trip to the Northern NSW flood area (hence weird posts recently from me). On my return SHE said something about the earth moving.Continental plates drift at about the same rate as fingernails grow.
That is, about a millimeter a week. Tectonic plates, which divide the continents, drift because of the heat that pushes its way up to the surface from the Earth's core. This is the same activity that causes earthquakes and volcanic activity. At the rate they move, the tectonic plates end up drifting between one and two inches each year.
