You can still acquire shares during the close of period from 4 to 4.12. Done brokers refer to it as the snap. Trading is often difficult but you can still buy shares that are shown on the screen.
If you watch Rio and BHP during the snap on options expiry days, you can sometimes see these shares move up to
40 cents during the period.
