The fact about SPI/XJO is Aussie market is cap weighted index, its all about BHP and the Banks, which doesn't really have to follow other markets closely like today
Other index like Nikkei and Hongkers are all equall weighted index, so each stock in the index doesn't matter how big all share the same weighting, same as the DOW, so these index are much better easier to move regardless of one or two stocks
