Originally CXY was going to build a 30MW demo plant IIRC. They've since scrapped that idea for a 200MW 'demo' plant which will then be doubled to 400MW.
CXY's technology is 'successful' in the sense that they (Len and Ergo) have previously successfully gasified coal in a similar situation to what they plan to do at Kingaroy. It's untested in the sense that this will be the first attempt to utilise the syngas for commercial purposes in Australia.
So there is still risk associated with that. But most of the 'regular posters' feel the potential payoff far outweighs the risk. Certainly it has a much lower risk profile than LNC and even CNX. Burning the syngas for electricity generation is the lowest risk use for it.
