Meanwhile, one unit holder in the MFS-founded Premium Income Fund continued his Charles Bronson-inspired campaign to push for the Australian Securities and Investments Commission to step up its scrutiny of the bombed-out mortgage fund.

After already pressuring his local federal Nationals MP, Luke Hartsuyker, to seek an explanation from the chairman of ASIC, Greg Medcraft, on what the regulator was doing in monitoring the controversial management of the fund by Wellington Capital's Jenny Hutson, Coffs Harbour resident Simon Grundel was back in Sydney last week seeking answers.

''All that you can see here are opportunity shop things,'' said Grundel about his dress code to the Fairfax Media lobby last week, illustrating what has become of his investment in the fund.

''On Monday I went to see ASIC with an op shop shirt I bought for one dollar,'' he said about his earlier visit during the week to the regulator.

Grundel, who says he originally had about $500,000 invested in the fund, wants ASIC to stop Wellington selling any more of the fund's assets. ''I'm pushing for direct action and a continued investigation.''
