Well done troutfisho. A balanced and most importantly factual post.
Yes this company has made mistakes. Yes there was too much hype in the beginning.
But VCR might very well be a significant and profitable exporter for Australia in just a few years time with only one major competitor (who makes an inferior product by the way).
The US is the economy that has gone severely down the gurgler, while Aust is comparatively strong, yet we allocate a value to our biotech which is almost less than 5 times that of the Yanks (comparing revenue with Thoratec)!! That is even in light of Thoratec's quality control problems in which 5 patients have died so far.
Really makes me proud to be an Aussie in that we support our hi-tech exporting industry this much...NOT.
Unfortunately I can't participate in SPP cause I am presently cash strapped (damn it!) but I do believe the company may have a bright future should they overcome these financial hurdles. I would not really recommend the SPP to those that are cash strapped, probably best leaving your money in the bank or under the pillow...but for others who have a small amount of disposable cash I think this is a very wise play.
Personally I still think the directors should take a pay cut (despite the extra hours they're working) and I would be interested if you or anybody else at the AGM could disclose more info regarding the forgoing of their fees and whether this was seriously considered by the board.
