Business hit with $7bn emissions bill

Business has criticised stringent new greenhouse gas reporting requirements being imposed by the Federal Government. Some of Australia’s largest companies, including Boral, Telstra, Theiss, Babcock & Brown, Leighton Holdings, ExxonMobil, BHP Billiton, and National Australia Bank have complained about the timeline, cost, and lack of detail in energy use and emissions guidelines, due to begin on July 1. Overhauling computer systems and workplace practices to incorporate emissions reporting will cost an estimated $7 billion, according to information technology consultancy S2 Intelligence. T
