I really just wait until they flower and as the flowers die I pull them up - usually mid/late summer.
But I have been told you pull them up when the flowers are in full bloom ?
My way has worked fine for years though - i'll just stick with that lol
I've also got a great old ceramic hanging basket for drying garlic so just put them in that hanging from a rafter in the shed to dry out.
Yep i love my herbs - i often eat very simple food with few ingredients so herbs are stars.
I love pasta with just olive oil garlic and ... different herb different day.
Mint since you reminded me, I forgot that but it actually grows right next to / amongst the garlic.
I mulch basically everything in summer - it gets pretty hot - few bags of pea straw the other week.
Can't wait to get these tomatoes coming in with the basil though - marriage in heaven and just sings summer.
