What's really sad is that Howard has forced the spineless labor party to capitulate to pass a free trade agreement that is not neccessarily in this country's best interests. First he sacrificed our national security by following Bush into Iraq and now he has turned what must be the most important economic decision this country has made in a decade into a political counter, a football to be kicked around, not to improve our competitiveness in international trade but rather in securing his own re-election. Pure wedge politics.
Here is an agreement about which the public has seen virtually no wortwhile analysis and upon which we are forced to make a snap decision in the face of serious adverse commentary from people whose opinions at the very least deserve serious consideration. It may well be that in the end, the agreement merits acceptance but only after exhaustive examination in the the light of full discussion and in an atmosphere untainted by party political decisions.
This is just a further example of what a disgrace John Howard is and how far the labor party has fallen from truly representing those for whom it was formed.
