The CSIRO study in 2001 would have been based on companies who mine the coal, bring it to the surface, burn it and then capture the Syngas, because at that time no one was doing UCG to GTL. LINC PIONEERED IT !

So the Greenhouse gases , in particular, come from the mining. That's why they were so much greater. But NOT with UCG.
