The NRMA says an urgent summit must be held to examine ways to provide relief for motorists from soaring petrol prices.
The Service Station Association has tipped that petrol prices will reach $1.45 a litre this week.
The NRMA is calling on federal and state governments, as well as oil companies, to attend the summit.
It says granting the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission wider powers to deal with fuel prices needs to be considered.
