The emergency 50% discount on Government Excise on fuel will end on the 30th Sept adding 22c/litre to both petrol & diesel. That said, however, we'll still be better off than the Poms who are paying in Pounds what we're paying in our Peso.(2:1)
In 1997 the then Howard Government set our petrol & diesel prices at wholesale proces in Singapore & Saudi Arabia. We were a net exporter of oil then but no sooner had the ink drid on the legislation , we became a net importer and now we import about 90% of our fuels!
Due to the price of fuel now being set outside Aus, the ACCC is helpless because that is outside its jurisdiction!.....oil companies 1 & consumers 0 !
