Exxon is getting severely criticised in the U.S. for making big profits and failing to reinvest in finding new reserves. If they are not careful they will get slapped with something like a windfall tax, so they need to be seen to be doing something constructive.
A new oil province in a politically safe country, close to the U.S. sounds ideal to me, I just hope they and Simon are thinking along the same lines.
