Gets a Boost from Spiderman
Funtastic reported today that interest in their Spider-Man
merchandise has rocketed on the back of the recent US success of the
Spider-Man movie launch.
The new blockbuster film Spider-Man which opened in the US over the
weekend, made the biggest opening record in box office history!
Taking an estimated Australian $215 million (US$114 million)
Spider-Man smashed the all time record for opening box office by 26%
(previously set by Harry Potter last year which made US$90.3
million).
Funtastic's Managing Director, David Handy, said from the
international Toy Fair in Tokyo that the phenomenon of the Spider-Man
movie has ignited huge interest in Spider-Man merchandise at retail
and that the market was eagerly awaiting the Australian premiere on 6
June 2002. He said that already sales of Spider-Man merchandise were
160% above the previous corresponding period in 2001.
Just one day after making movie history with the record shattering
open weekend, Marvel Enterprises Inc has announced that it has
received a seven figure advance for production of the sequel due to
hit screens in 2004. Mr Handy said this was great news for the long
time future of the brand.
