A lot of signals are turning positive in the retail sector :
- most of the retail stocks are not reacting any more to negative news (cf retail sales published on Friday, which showed a decrease of 0.8 % mom in June),
- retail stocks are, at the same time, reacting strongly to any positive news (cf Baby Bunting and Adairs today),
- the 2nd consecutive month of stabilization for cash rate is another positive element for the sector.
Of course, it remains uncertainties for the sector and retail sales seem to continue to decrease in the short term.
But, I think that a lot of bad news are now well discounted into the retail share prices.
For example, Nick Scali is now trading on a P/B much lower than before covid, without any particular reason, except than short term uncertainties.
