Several stories behind the rebound of coal prices last week : - of course, the fires in 2 mines which affects the supply, - but also demand for coal fired power stations which has been increasing during the June quarter in Australia, due to less generation from wind (despite an increase of supply of wind farms), - article in The Economist last week which indicates that coal prices have been supported by demand which remains significant from emerging markets (Asia), while supply may decrease faster due to the lack of financing for new coal mines.
