What they are saying is in the real world there are never anywhere near high enough concentrations of zinc oxide in the water to cause any harm to coral. Again, high enough levels of any substance in our body become toxic.
I'll break it down.
Chemical sunscreens:
"oxybenzone starts causing serious damage to corals at concentrations as low as the equivalent of one drop of water in six-and-a-half Olympic-sized swimming pools."
Zinc Oxide sunscreens:
"Researchers estimated it would take some 5,700 people with sunscreen swimming in an Olympic-sized pool to bring about similarly disastrous effects."
When ANO say it is reef safe, it truly is reef safe.
