There are about 3.8million Australians aged 65 and over at 2017 and about 1Million aged between 60 and 65 reaching retirement age . So quite a large number and brought about by the Baby Boomers . I am not sure of the Statistics how these retirees are funded in their retirement either self funded or reliant on Social Services . Due to Superannuation becoming compulsory it would safely say = a majority of the retirees are self funded mainly due to many many years of growth in Australia. So I am a self funded retiree and for many years have had a term deposit only to see the interest rates reach all times lows. Hence I have invested in the Stock Market looking for companies that pay dividends and returns that are far better than the term deposit option. I am sure I am not the only one in that category. When companies that are looking for growth capital to expand their businesses there are certain institutions ready to provide the cash This is only a thought but Rex Minerals has been seeking finance to bring Hillside into production . Everything is in place and the only thing stopping Rex is the $A585 million . From the 4 million retirees I was looking for 117,000 retirees to fund the Hillside project. This is about 3% of the 4 million retirees with some spare cash not earning any interest at the moment. Say 117,000 at $5,000.00 equates to $A585 million . The return to the investor for each $5000 unit would calculated over 5 years at 7% compound interest. After 5 years the return on that investment would be $7012 or about 40% capital appreciation . So it equates to an 8% interest rate per annum much better than the banks offer around 1% per annum . So say someone was investing $200,000 in a term deposit for 1 year their return would be $2,000 per annum as opposed to this plan which would return approximately $16,000 per annum . If someone could set up a company for this purpose in quick time just imagine how many pensioners may see an improvement in their standard in the years ahead. I think pensioners have been bypassed by governments over the years and this may be a plan that could help them share in the wealth and give them an interest in the growth of their investments. This could be a extension of what Superannuation companies do with contribution funds during and their working lives ie investing in ASX shares now this plan will give the retirees an option for their retirement nest egg to still grow during their retirement and therefore maintain a quality of life that they have been accustomed to and deserve . It would have to be done legally and maybe a superannuation company can formulate some legal entity for this purpose. Just a thought of mine to bring about the development of the Hillside Mine. This way there would be no need for Rex to issue any more shares and preventing a major shares on issue register and dilution of long term investors funds . Also maybe the 5 year investment with an option to convert to shares upon maturity of the investment. I think this is possible and my Term Deposit that is now .075% will agree with you there must be something better.
