Many people confuse a statue in a public park as history. It isn't. It is just a memorial to someone in history. There are no statues to Hitler but he is very much a part of 20th Century history and no one says he is erased from it because he has no statues.. The statue to Burke and Wills in Swanston St commemorates their trek but most people could not tell you anything about it. Their part in history is in the books, memorabilia and films about that era. Removing or leaving a statue has nothing to do with history except in the minds of empty headed people who care nothing of the real history of events and politicize everything..
