Another quick thought on the 'why people are selling at these prices' issue. Crystalising the losses, already mentioned, but buying back in immediately which lowers your buy price and allows you to take losses now - pretty obvious probably. Also, if you have a lot of shares and want to move some around your family and friends or to another entity (your super fund or company), a good time to do it is when the price is very low - crystalise your losses while giving them a really low entry price. Maybe this is also too obvious, but there were a lot of cross trades happening - even though you can still do this without it being a cross trade. I suppose the point I am making is that there are plenty of explanations that should not cause buyers concern.
