if houses are built with energy self sufficiency in mind right from the get go and it is cheaper than being on the grid, I really do believe people will go off grid

if your roof was entirely made out of cheap solar panels like the ones DYE are working towards and if your car is electric and your storage is cheap and reliable and you have gennies and gas as backup why not?

There are most likely going to be many new things being mainstream in the future, for example DC air conditioning for the home, fuel cells using gas, backup gennies topping up storage etc
