I read an article about 2 years ago about Lockheed Martin, they where claiming to be able to develop a fully commercial fusion reactor within a 10 year time frame after supposedly recent breakthroughs, one of the breakthroughs they spoke of was the way plasma and magnetic forces interacted. They had access to data from the SOHO satellite that was commissioned to watch the sun 24/7, it gave them vital clues into the behaviour of plasma in a magnetic field.
