Going by your analysis of KGM, they should have been worth zilch long before they made the decision to mine because that's where they will be again if they hibernate. explorer status will probably increase the value of the shares as there will be no perceived risk, be it real or imaginary risk.

I have sold half of my KGM and added to my NST holding, they will be able to weather most storms as one of the lowest cost producers in this country.
