Most holders saw that 'hint' by the Chair as only a Claytons hint intended to flush out other parties, which it did. Notice that TG and other Board members did not sell any of their holdings at the time, despite that assumed 'hint'! Maybe TG and the board's inaction was the bigger hint at the time and holders 'ought' to have taken that into consideration also? Either way, fate and luck played key roles in the uncertain outcome.
