Dear Reader,
Over the past few months, we have made significant strides in advancing the technical and research activities of the GR4FITE3 project. Alongside this, we have continued our efforts to raise awareness about the project, its objectives, and its impact across Europe. One of our key priorities during this time has been fostering connections with other EU-funded projects and initiatives. By creating synergies, we open doors for valuable knowledge sharing, enhanced collective impact, and greater visibility for our work. Despite facing challenges such as delays in material availability and process implementation, the GR4FITE3 project has remained focused. Below, we present a comprehensive overview of our recent achievements and the next steps in our journey.

Graphite purification process
Progress has been made in developing a cost-effective chemical purification process for graphite, achieving 99.9% purity
Shaping, sizing, coating
Advancements include experimental coating processes, with promising results from thermal purification efforts. Scaling up these processes to meet pilot production levels is the next focus, alongside continued testing of composite anodes
Slurry and electrode fabrication process
Initial electrode fabrication using reference materials has shown encouraging results. Efforts are ongoing to standardize procedures and electrodes preparation.
Waiting for the EU Battery Passport
Our project supports and aligns with the introduction of the EU Battery Passport by developing a sustainable supply chain for industrial carbon products and enhancing Europe’s resilience in critical raw materials.
Our GR4FITE3 contact list has expanded thanks to the meetings with RESPECT, SOURCE and Cluster Hub!The
RESPECT project aims at transforming the batteries’ recycling process and at opening new sustainable and circular markets in Europe along the Li-ion batteries value chain, thus reinforcing security of supply and its strategic autonomy.
The SOURCE project is focused on developing, improving, and demonstrating sustainable, economically viable processes for producing battery-grade synthetic graphite for high-performance anodes.
The Cluster Hub 'Production of raw materials for batteries from European resources' is a knowledge exchange ecosystem, where partners involved in different European projects can identify and discuss common topics related to their projects, and to the production of materials for batteries, as well as synergies that can foster innovations in this field.
