I prefer to own things that make money, losing it isn't my style, despite your decades as a famous gold trader you're backing a losing horse, gold's down 33% in 3 years, even a term deposit looks good.
You could try beef, I own some, I bought them for $600 on 31/3 and I'll get around $1100 after costs in November at current prices. 83% in 8 months, not bad.
People haven't fought, worshipped and killed for beef, but it sure makes money.
