According to a pit mgr I had lunch with not so long ago in Morwell;

It costs LV power stations about 95c to ''win'' a tonne of LV lignite.

( $10 / tonne is a nominal retail inferred price )

Roughly ( very roughly) 5 tonne of valley lignite are consumed,,per second, every second,, to keep Loy Yang Hazelwood and Yallourn etc pumpin' sparks down the line...cheep and nasty huh. Thats about 12 tonne of CO2 per second gracing Australia's Carbon footprint. C/- the valley

Or to put it another way,,, 5 bux a second for raw material energy = about 240 bux a second Carbon tax if they tax C in it's CO2 form,,, or just a measly 60 bux a second if they just tax the C bonded to O2.

Is it any wonder we are being bombarded with ''no carbon tax'' propaganda in the media ?

Anyone hazard a guess at what percentage of Australia's carbon footprint is c/- LV power stations ?
