futures up 24 points Another 0.3% gain in the core prices could lock in a rate hike to 5.50%. A 0.2% gain would be neutral for the Fed, said Stu Hoffman, chief economist for PNC. "While the inflation data should be a bit more tame than has been the case in recent months, they likely won't be so tame as to change the odds of another rate hike," Hoffman said.
A 0.1% gain could be reassuring enough to allow the Fed to take at least a temporary pause in August.
