marketwatch summary LONDON (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stock market futures were pointing to a mild rebound Thursday after the last session's drubbing on concerns about continued interest rate hikes.
S&P 500 futures jumped 7 points to 1,276.0 and Nasdaq 100 futures rose 9 points at 1,613.75 points. Dow industrials futures rose 49 points.
On Wednesday, the Dow industrials tumbled 214 points, and other indexes also declined after a stronger-than-forecast reading of core inflation sparked another bout of heavy selling.
The Dow hadn't lost that much in a single session since March 24, 2003.
European stock markets, which suffered an even bigger drop than U.S. markets did on Wednesday, edged higher in mid-day trade.
Asian markets fell in their first opportunity to react to the U.S. CPI figures.
Crude-oil futures weakened, as did the dollar after the greenback's rally on Wednesday.
Weekly jobless claims, April leading indicators and the Philly Fed survey are the economic highlights of the day.
