Building the LAMP in another country doesn't just give power to the protesters, it gives them a win against their government.
Lynas are doing the right thing, complying with all the necessary requirements imposed on them by the government of Malaysia. The plant and process are safe now and will continue to be proven safe in the future.
Ultimately, who should run the country and make these decisions? The democratically elected government or a bunch of rabid anarchists who have closed their minds to the facts?
What will happen to Malaysia in the future if decisions on such projects are allowed to be made in the street?
