Newly issued shares represent a 2.7% earnings dilution.
Total dividend distribution will amount to $198m or 2% of the share price as at today. Magellan raises $275m as permanent funds to invest, which is $77m more than the total payout. Some may say they could have reinvested the earnings and that way the SP won’t be affected much. The difference is that the former will lock in the funds and provide more certainty to the company.
By cutting out traditional brokers commission, the new trust has up to 4% cost savings and is positioned well compared to other similar vehicles.
