I don't understand your comment in relation to the CSEM.
According the the reading in the Shell newsletter mentention a few posts before the CSEM is mainly used to distiguishing between present hydrocarbons (intact trap) and residual hydocarbons (faulty trap). Apparently both shows up on the seismic, the CSEM help determine if the oil is still there or was once but not any more due to for example a shifting seafloor destroying the trap.
